Indian Brands Don't Get it - Charles Assisi from Founding Fuel

Charles Assisi is an award-winning journalist with two decades of experience to back him. He is currently co-founder and director at Founding Fuel. Prior to this, he was the Managing Editor at Forbes India and Editor at ForbesLife India. He is a speaker at CAS16 and here are his 5 Questions with us.

1. From a journalist to an entrepreneur…what’s different?

My view of the world has changed. From being a skeptic, I am now an optimist. I am far more open to listen to ideas and people more sympathetically than I used to before. That said, I have far less time on hand to listen to people who fluff and can see through people far more easily. Being an entrepreneur is not easy. It is tough. But this is a call I have taken and am enjoying every moment of it.

2. 2 hacks to overcome Writer’s Block, if there is one?

a) Maintain a diary and keep jotting down thoughts ever so often as it occurs to you. You never know what makes for a story.

b) Talk to anybody and everybody you meet. Everybody has an interesting story to tell.

3. What has been the most significant change in content curation in last 2 years?

It hasn’t happened yet.
It is only beginning. But the world is full of noise on the back of content being thrown in the form of social media and everybody who thinks they have an opinion. All of it will have to be filtered out and tools are being developed by people like Harold Jarche, James Clear, Leo Babuata, Shane Parrish, Maria Popova, etc, all one person outfits, but very intelligent ones, that are making sense of the world to the communities they serve. And they are making a lot of sense and attracting people in hordes.

4. Where do you see the digital-readiness of Indian brands?

Indian brands don’t get it.
They think having a website and an app means they are digitally ready. Who is to tell them ours is a different country with different challenges? For instance, why aren’t people working on complex problems like Indic language scripts being recognized?

5. One great reason not to miss your session at Click Asia Summit 2016

Because I know what I am talking about 🙂
